Don Lewis
Don Lewis is the Managing Partner of Lewis Financial Tax Service, LLC. After graduating from Berea College, he began his career working in private industry. In 1979, Don formed his own company to provide financial services to small businesses. He felt every small business should employ a Controller to provide financial management to the firm even if their size and budget only allowed them to fill that position on a part-time basis. This same business logic has been applied to financial planning issues for families and individuals.
In 1977, Don received his MBA from the University of Chicago. By 1987 he had completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation with the College of Financial Planning and the Enrolled Agent designation, in 1988, with the Dept. of Treasury. Don Lewis formed Lewis Tax Service, LLC in 1982 in the Chicago suburbs & relocated the business to Kentucky in 1990 for an additional 30 years. Don once again looks to establish himself, this time in Sunset Beach with his son Ryan. Don is a CFP Practitioner and is enrolled to practice before the IRS.
Ryan Lewis
Coming out of high school, Ryan planned to get his degree and eventually take over the family business. Ryan attended the University of Louisville concentrating on accounting, but decided he didn’t want to live in Lawrenceburg, KY the rest of his life. He discovered that he enjoyed retail management and worked a couple management jobs over the next 11 years. During those 11 years, he operated a soccer specialty store initially owned by his high school soccer coach and later sold, in which he worked 3 more years. By this time, he had become bored, so he reached out to a McDonald’s Owner/Operator he worked for in high school. Ryan eventually moved to Louisville, KY and transferred to a corporate-owned McDonald’s, and became a GM in 14 months.
In June 2018, Ryan and his family visited Sunset Beach on vacation. During the visit, his wife decided she wanted to move here. The next day, both had job offers and moved to Ocean Isle 45 days later. Ryan took a job as a General Manager for a McDonald’s Franchisee and worked for them for a year-and-a-half. While he loved McDonald’s, he decided that he needed to find an occupation that he could dictate on his own terms. His daughters were beginning extracurricular activities, and he did not want to have to miss a single moment.
Ryan carries the IRS-recognized AFSP designation, and the authority to represent his clients before the IRS. This designation requires preparers to stay current with updated tax law, and ethics topics, and includes a yearly competency exam. The AFSP is one of only three tax-specific designations which are given the authority to represent clients.
In September 2019, Don and Ryan sat down and worked out a partnership.
